Herr Office

The focus of this project was to design an efficient office, open to nature, that would be heated in winter by the sun and cooled in the summer by natural convection. Winter heating called for the glass wall to angle toward the south while summer cooling called for a deeply overhanging roof on that side. The sawtooth profile of the roof allows the building to maintain its local orthogonal orientation to the streets while maintaining the south orientation of the glass wall. The two sides of the interior walls provide efficient mass for thermal storage and never touch the ceiling, maintaining throughout, a feeling of generous space.
