Port Republic II
Two Lots in Port Republic
The historic village of Port Republic sits at the confluence of North River and South River in east Rockingham County. Its simple street grid, occupied by log, brick and frame houses from the past two centuries, gives measured urban definition to this county district. We own two half acre lots that face the wide bank of South River, maintained each summer by the flock of sheep bought by the Port Republic Historical Society for that purpose. We seek clients with which to partner in the design and building of houses appropriate to this treasured setting.
These images show one possible idea that could be incorporated into a design. We are showing a glass house built inside the existing log house. Since the log house is close to the street this scheme uses the unchinked logs as a natural screen to afford privacy for the rooms of the glass house. The full house would be designed to the needs and values of the client.
